Biographical Note

Born in Columbiana County, Ohio, Alcinus Young Eaton (1842-1898) attended Mount Union College in Ohio before receiving his law degree from the Cleveland College of Law in 1870. The following year, he traveled to the Southwest, seeking a drier climate for health reasons and eventually settling in Silver City, New Mexico, where he worked as a newspaper editor and a gold prospector. After moving to Minnesota between 1878 and 1879, Eaton established a law practice in Wright County. In 1887, he was elected to the 25th Minnesota Legislature, serving three successive terms until his retirement in 1894.
