Scope and Contents

Composed of Photostats of military records, speeches, a letter, certificates, and an
orchard plan, the L. M. Cravens Papers, 1862-[1878], document Cravens’ military
career as captain of Company F of the Confederate Army’s First Mississippi Cavalry
Regiment during the Civil War. The military records, 1862-1863, comprise muster
rolls, a list of discharged soldiers, bills, an inventory of a deceased soldier’s
property, and special orders from Col. R. A. Pinson. An 1862 account describes
clothing issued to the Fifteenth Texas Volunteer Infantry of the Confederate Army,
while speeches by Cravens, [1878], undated, discuss politics during the
Reconstruction Era. Additionally, the collection contains an 1863 medical
certificate for W. M. Shaw, an 1865 Master Mason certificate for Cravens, an 1866
letter to Cravens from R. A. Pinson, and an undated plan for a fruit orchard.
