Typescripts of five essays compose the C. A. Bridges Essays, undated, documenting Bridge’s research on mid-19th century Mississippi. The essays concern the political history of Mississippi from 1850 through its 1861 secession from the United States, including the impact of the Kansas-Nebraska Act, the presidential election of 1852, and the Know Nothing Party (later renamed the American Party) in Mississippi.
