			<head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>Comprising an historical narrative, scrapbooks, and photographs, the Bowie County Records, [ca. 1875-1968], document the history of Bowie County, Texas. Written by <emph render="doublequote">an immigrant,</emph> the historical narrative concerns the history of the county from its establishment in 1840 through the late 1870s, describing Anglo and Native American settlements, notable residents, a biographical sketch of Texas governor Hardin Richard Runnels, and political issues. Three scrapbooks consisting of newspaper clippings chronicle notable events and individuals, crime, and weddings, among other topics in Bowie County and the city of Texarkana. Additionally, the scrapbooks include printed items such as programs commemorating the founding of Texarkana and the dedication of historical markers by the Daughters of the American Revolution, while photographs depict World War I and II soldiers from Bowie County.</p>
