Biographical Note
Born in Mexia, Texas, Margaret Armstrong (b. 1857) married George M. Bowie in 1875. The couple lived with their son Willie in the Keechi Valley region of Jack County, Texas, where George worked as a teacher at the Salt Hill School. In 1877, Margaret moved with her family to Fort Worth.
Scope and Contents
Comprising two typescripts, the Margaret A. Bowie Diary, 1872-1877, chronicles Bowie’s experiences in the Keechi Valley region of Jack County, Texas. The diary describes life on the frontier, familial affairs, and her courtship with George Bowie.
