Biographical Note

A native of Atascosa County, Texas, Ted Schwarz (1911-1978) conducted research on the battle of Medina. In addition to publishing Forgotten Battlefield of the First Texas Revolution: The Battle of Medina, August 13, 1813 (1985), he also authored several articles on the battle for the Atascosa Monitor during the 1930s.

Scope and Contents

Comprised of a draft of a manuscript, research notes, correspondence, newspaper clippings, printed material, pamphlets, and a photograph, the Ted Schwarz Papers, 1968-1976, document Schwarz’s research and writing process for his book entitled The Guns of Medina, later renamed Forgotten Battlefield of the First Texas Revolution. A draft of the manuscript consists of several chapters of the book and a bibliography, while research notes include handwritten notes, photocopies of documents from the General Land Office, and research notecards on various topics concerning early 19th century Texas history. Correspondence with libraries and historical associations in Texas regard his research; newspaper clippings pertain to topics related to Texas history; and printed material includes several issues of Southwestern Historical Quarterly. Additionally, the collection contains pamphlets from the Texas State Historical Association and historical sites in Texas, and a photocopy of a photograph of Schwarz.
