Historical Note
A blues tradition that developed in the early 20th century, Texas barrelhouse blues is characterized by its loud, upbeat, fast-tempo rhythm arising from piano musicians performing in crowded, noisy barrelhouses, bars, or saloons. Also referred to as boogie-woogie or fast Texas blues, notable barrelhouse blues musicians include Alex Moore (1899-1989), Lavada Durst (1913-1995), and Roosevelt T. Grey Ghost Williams (1903-1996).
