			<p>Dudley Thaddeus Perkins lived with his wife Caroline in Biddeford, Maine. During the Civil War, he enlisted in Company I of the 4th Maine Infantry Regiment of the United States Army.</p>

			<head>Scope and Contents</head>
			<p>Correspondence comprises the Dudley Thaddeus Perkins Papers, 1862-1866, chronicling Perkins’ experiences in the 4th Maine Infantry Regiment during the Civil War. The majority of the letters are written to Perkins’ sister, Lizzie Stackpole Blairsdal describing marches, military engagements on Matagorda Island, Texas, and his time stationed at Fort Macomb, Louisiana, and Fort Esperanza, Texas. Additionally, the collection includes several letters from Perkins’ wife Caroline to Lizzie concerning familial affairs.</p>
