			<head>Scope and Contents</head>
			<p>Comprised of correspondence, postcards, diaries, newspaper clippings, greeting cards, military orders, a training manual, photographs, and a map, the World War I Soldiers’ Collection, 1917-1919, 1965-1968, chronicles the experiences of twenty American soldiers during World War I. Soldiers documented in the collection are Charles Acker; Sergeant Francis J. Boss; Oswald M. Broermann; Sergeant H. F. Cannon; Captain William W. Chance; Clinton T. Engler; Daniel H. Evans; Air Vice-Marshall Raymond Collishaw; Sergeant-Major William H. Flood; John T. Glynn; Petty Officer Edward A. Hackett; Orley D. Hibbs; Owen Hugo Hoover; James Irwin; Sergeant Lawrence L. Lipke; Leon F. Salley; 1st Sergeant Marshall Symmes; R. D. Walker; Wilfred Wood; and members of the Van Deusen.</p>
			<p>Correspondence primarily consists of letters from the soldiers to their families, describing travel through France, Germany, and England as well as combat, conditions within the army, and family affairs during and following the war, while blank postcards depict various locations throughout France, such as Paris, Chateau de Chantilly, Reims, and Rouen. Diaries of several soldiers discuss their experiences traveling and fighting in France as well as sea voyages. Additionally, the collection contains newspaper clippings from French newspapers, greeting cards, a training manual pertaining to tactics in field artillery, military orders consisting of information on operations in France, a map including notes on plans of action and casualties, and photographs portraying the soldiers, their families, and various sites in France.</p>
