A Guide to the David A. White Papers, 1985-2005
Biographical NoteDavid A. White (1927-2004) graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College with a master's degree and later received his doctorate in geology from the University of Minnesota. After 32 years as a senior research geologist for Exxon, he moved into consulting work, teaching a system for assessing oil and gas production potential in numerous countries. White also edited News of the Plains and Rockies 1803-1865, a nine volume series of books on American westward expansion, published primarily in the 1990s, for which he spent two decades collecting and studying material from classic bibliographies of western travel and adventure. White returned to education as a student and lecturer for the University of Texas at Austin's Seminars for Adult Growth and Enrichment (SAGE). White Papers, 1985-2005, documenting White's research and writing on 19th century American westward expansion as well as his work as an educator. A bound working manuscript of the nine volume series News from the Plains and Rockies, which White edited, features his handwritten errata. Research notes relate to his editing and plans for the series. Additionally, the collection contains the curriculum package for a lecture series White taught for the University of Texas at Austin's Seminars for Adult Growth and Enrichment (SAGE).
