			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>Journalist and music historian Ed Ward (b. 1948) began writing about music in 1965. A
				food editor for the <title render="italic">Austin Chronicle</title> in Austin,
				Texas, he also wrote columns for the <title render="italic">Austin
					American-Statesman</title> from 1979 through 1984. Two years later Ward,
				Geoffrey Stokes, and Ken Tucker published <title render="italic">Rock of Ages: The
					Rolling Stone History of Rock &#x0026; </title>Roll. That same year, Ward became
				rock-and-roll historian for NPR’s <title render="italic">Fresh Air</title> with
				Terry Gross. </p>

			<p>Comprising Ward’s columns from the <title render="italic">Austin
					American-Statesman</title>, the Ed Ward Collection, 1979-1984, documents the
				music scene in Austin, Texas, during the 1970s and 1980s. The columns discuss
				upcoming stage shows and record albums, reviews of musical performances and albums,
				and interviews with musicians and others in the music industry, including Willie
				Nelson, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and producer Bob Johnston.</p>
