Scope and Contents

Comprising posters and broadsides, printed materials and publications, a certificate,
information packets, and correspondence, the Texas Sesquicentennial Collection,
1985-1986, documents the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of
Texas. Posters and broadsides advertise special events and lectures of the
celebration as well as depict famous people and events of the Texas Revolution and
Republic of Texas, such as Stephen F. Austin, the Battle of San Jacinto, and Santa
Anna’s surrender. Consisting of brochures, programs, calendars, advertisements, date
books, newspapers, and journals, printed materials and publications promote lectures
and special events and describe the histories of numerous Texas counties and towns.
Correspondence and informational packets chronicle the advertising for the
sesquicentennial as well as the administration of the Texas 1986 Sesquicentennial
Commission. Of special note, a certificate signed by Prince Charles of the United
Kingdom commemorates his visit to the University of Texas at Austin on February 20,
1986.
