A Guide to the Summerlee Foundation Records, 1989-2000
Historical NoteFounded by animal rights advocate Annie Lee Roberts of Dallas, Texas, in 1988, the non-profit Summerlee Foundation is named in honor of Roberts and her husband Summerfield G. Roberts. The organization supports programs for animal welfare and protection as well as research and educational projects on Texas history. Its wildlife program assists animal rescue, research, rehabilitation, and advocacy projects in the United States, while the Texas history program funds academic research, field archaeology, historical conservation, oral histories, and educational programs, primarily in Texas. Scope and ContentsComprised of grant proposals, correspondence, financial records, and publications, the Summerlee Foundation Records, 1989-2000, document the administration of the Summerlee Foundation. Grant proposals from animal rights and Texas historical organizations include applications, correspondence, summaries, brochures, financial statements, proposed budgets, and other records relating to accepted and declined projects of such organizations as The Sixth Floor Museum and the Texas State Historical Association. The collection also contains the correspondence and grant files of Summerlee vice president John Crain; meeting minutes and agenda for the Board of Directors; programs, correspondence, and brochures for the Council on Foundations and Conference of Southwest Foundations; and the files of Ron Tyler of the Texas State Historical Association concerning the Summerlee Foundation and the Summerlee Commission.
