			<p>Formerly a reporter and editor for the Houston Press, jazz enthusiast Steve Sucher
				joined the University of Houston-Downtown as a university-wide development officer
				in 1998, becoming director of development for the College of Business in 2006.</p>

			<p>Comprised of newspaper clippings, a letter, a brochure, a program, and portfolios,
				the Steve Sucher Collection, [ca. 1991]-2004, documents the history of jazz and jazz
				musicians in America. A July 7, 1995, letter from Harold Dessler of New York City,
				New York, to Steve Sucher of Houston, Texas, discusses the decline of newspapers,
				national politics, jazz music, international trips, and Sucher’s job hunting.
				Newspaper clippings from the <title render="italic">New York Times</title>, [ca.
				1995], include biographies and obituaries of jazz musicians, information about music
				collections and auctions, and reviews of musical performances and recordings, among
				other topics. The collection also includes a program for the 2004 conference <title
					render="doublequote">The Joint Is Jumpin’: A Celebration of Fats Waller’s
					Centennial,</title> a 2002 brochure for the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers
				University, and two portfolios for Jim Marshall’s photography, [ca. 1991], depicting
				jazz and rock musicians primarily during the 1960s and 1970s.</p>
