Biographical Note

A native of Kenedy, Texas, entrepreneur Lawrence Lafayette Reasoner (1890-1980) was actively engaged in his community. Reasoner aided the development of Kenedy and Karnes County and was a member of the Kenedy Masonic Lodge, as well as director of the Kenedy National Bank and the Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he served on the board of the San Antonio River Authority.


Scope and Contents

Comprised of correspondence, newspaper clippings, printed material, maps, ephemera, and photographs, the Lawrence Lafayette Reasoner Papers, 1756-1975, document Reasoner’s career as director of the Kenedy National Bank and his family history. Correspondence consists of Reasoner’s personal and business letters as well as Photostats of 18th and 19th century family letters, concerning familial affairs, Reasoner’s genealogical research, and the development of the Kenedy Alien Detention Camp during World War II. Photocopies of newspaper clippings relate to social affairs in Kenedy, the activities of its citizens, and its history. Printed material contains issues of the Old Trail Driver (1961), the Baylor Monthly (1925), and the Austin Centennial Weekly (1936), among others, while ephemera includes a page of mathematical problems dated to 1756, Photostats of military discharges for Anton von Roeder, and a death warrant issued for J. D. May in 1894 in Karnes County. Additionally, the collection includes maps of Kenedy as well as the Hondo and Escondido watersheds and photographs depicting members of the Reasoner family.
