			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>Born to rancher and oilman Edgar Bryan Kincaid, Sr., and his wife Lucille McKee in
				San Antonio, Texas, Edgar Bryan Kincaid, Jr. (1921-1985) moved to Austin in 1939 to
				live with his aunt Bertha McKee and her husband and folklorist J. Frank Dobie.
				Graduating from the University of Texas at Austin in 1943, Kincaid spent much of his
				time on ornithological field trips in Texas and Mexico. Following the death of
				ornithologist Harry C. Oberholser in 1963, Kincaid began editing and researching for
				Oberholser’s <title render="italic">The Bird Life of Texas</title> (1974). A charter
				member of the Texas Audubon Society, he was also an active member of the Texas
				Ornithological Society.</p>

			<p>Comprised of correspondence, newsletters, notecards, and a contract, the Edgar Bryan
				Kincaid, Jr., Papers, 1954-1979, document Kincaid’s ornithological career.
				Correspondence, 1954-1979, discusses the Texas Ornithological Society’s activities
				and newsletters, the Travis Audubon Society, birds in Texas and Mexico, and Roger
				Tory Peterson’s <title render="italic">A Field Guide to the Birds of Texas</title>,
				among other topics. Photocopies of newsletters, 1965, 1968, chronicle the activities
				of the Texas Conservation Council, while notecards contain ornithological
				information and citations. Additionally, the collection contains a 1967 contract
				between Baylor University and Kincaid et al., regarding the purchase of land.</p>
