Arthur E. Murphy (1901–1962) was a professor of philosophy at several
major American universities, including Berkeley, Chicago, Cornell, Brown,
Illinois, Washington, and Texas. Among his publications were
The Theory of Practical Reason,
The Uses of Reason, Reason, Reality, and Speculative
Philosophy, and Reason and the Common Good,
and he was the coauthor of Philosophy in American
Education.
