Clinton Terry Duff (1862-1941) graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Law degree in 1908. He joined his father F. J., uncle R. C., and grandfather George W. Duff in a Beaumont, Texas, law practice and served in the U. S. Army as a lieutenant during World War I. In his thirty years of law practice, Duff represented such East Texas companies as the Santa Fe and Southern Pacific railroads and the Gulf Refining Company in trial and appellate work. Duff's great-uncle was Colonel Benjamin Franklin Terry, commander of Terry's Texas Rangers during the Civil War.
Correspondence, legal documents, printed materials, clippings, and photographs compose the C. T. Duff Scrapbook, 1859-1941, documenting Duff's interests, legal career, and the history of the Duff family. Newspaper and magazine clippings from the 1910s to 1940s comprise the bulk of the collection, chronicling significant world and national events such as World War I, U. S. Presidents, political events, the rise of Hitler, and Duff's interest in military history. Ephemera, letters, and pamphlets relate to reunions of Duff's Army unit, his Masonic Lodge, and East Texas history. Printed material, transcripts, and correspondence also concern Duff's legal cases and activities in the profession in Beaumont and Port Arthur, Texas. Photographs portray Duff during his army service, another military officer and an unidentified child. Additionally, the collection contains a letter by Duff's uncle R. C. describing the political situation in Mexico during the Mexican Revolution and advocating U. S. annexation as well as an official Mason document issued upon the death of his grandfather George W. Duff.
