Biographical NoteKerrville, Texas, resident Martha Amanda Dobie (1900-1997) was the co-owner of the town's Main Book Shop. She was one of six children of Richard J. and Ella (Byler) Dobie and the sister of folklorist and author J. Frank Dobie, as well as her interests and the history of the Dobie family. The collection consists primarily of books, articles, and pamphlets written or edited by Frank or about his work and life, covering topics such as his Paisano Ranch home, wife Bertha McKee Dobie, and nephew Edgar Bryan Kincaid. Publisher's and rare book dealer's catalogs and advertisements relate to Frank's publications. Correspondence discusses the Isabel Gaddis Collection of J. Frank Dobie at Southwestern University, research on Frank, and Martha's personal interests. Historical materials comprise a survey of the William Dobie Homestead in Harris County, Texas, while photographs portray J. Frank, Bertha McKee, Dick, and Martha Dobie and the dedication of the J. Frank Dobie U. S. Post Office in San Antonio. Additionally, the collection contains prints by Charles M. Russell and an essay by Frank on the artist.
