Biographical NoteTexas Folklife is a non-profit organization dedicated to showcasing and preserving the cultural heritage of diverse communities in Texas. The organization produces performances, television and radio projects, exhibitions, and educational programs. In 1987, Texas Folklife produced a thirteen-part radio series, Lift Every Voice: Celebrating 50 Years of Texas Black Gospel in Central Texas, concerning the history of black gospel music in Texas. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsEighty-nine audio reels, a tape inventory, recording logs, and ephemera comprise the Texas Folklife Resources Black Gospel Radio Project, 1987-1988, documenting the history of black gospel music in Texas. The reels, with interviews and songs recorded from black Baptist churches around Austin, contain raw material from the Texas Folklife radio series Lift Every Voice (1987). The recording logs detail the subject matter and individuals involved with each recording, while ephemera include a Lift Every Voice flyer and program.
