Biographical Note
A native of Austin, Texas, Curtis Bishop (1912-1967) was a student at the University
of Texas at Austin, a newspaper writer for the Austin American-Statesman, and a
local author. Sometimes using the pseudonyms “Curt Brandon” and “Curt Carroll”,
Bishop wrote more than fifty books and several hundred magazine articles for youth
concerning sports and western lore.
Scope and Contents
Comprising magazines, short story transcripts, and photographs containing Bishop’s
work, the Curtis Bishop Papers, 1933-1953, 1967, undated, document his career as a
short story and magazine author. The collection includes his short stories: “Give a
Halfback Wings” and “The Lost Eleven.” Additionally, the papers contain a Texas
Senate Resolution (1967) in the aftermath of Bishop’s death and a 1953 Austin
American-Statesman article concerning a new book he had published.
