Historical NoteFounded in 1845, the United States Naval Academy trains students in a four-year Officer Development Program, preparing them for assignments as midshipmen after graduation. The courses focus on moral values, including honor, honesty, and respect for human dignity; academic education in mathematics, engineering, and other social and physical sciences; professional and leadership training through practical decision-making exercises; and an athletic program to improve health and teach teamwork.
