A Guide to the Coral Horton Tullis Papers, 1934-1952, undated
Biographical NoteBorn to John Thomas and Collistia (Polk) Horton in Elmo, Texas, historian and educator Coral Horton (1882–1967) taught in Travis County schools (1901-1903) and Austin public schools (1904-1906) after graduating from Denton’s Terrill School. In, 1906, she married John Ledbetter Tullis with whom she had four children. After ten years in Oregon, the family returned to Austin in 1922, where Tullis earned a B. A. and M. A. from the University of Texas. Appointed to the history department’s faculty in 1924, she retired as an assistant professor in 1959. Tullis was also corresponding secretary of the Texas State Historical Association from 1927 to 1967 as well as treasurer from 1942 to 1967.
