Scope and Contents

Composed of newspaper clippings and articles, the Texas Scrapbooks, [ca. 1841-1883, 1898-1941], document social, political, historical, and economic subjects in Texas from the mid-19th century through the mid-20th century. The clippings from variety of Texas newspapers [ca. 1898-1941] concern such political issues as the nomination of Dan Moody as governor and the passage of legislation, and historical subjects pertaining to the publication of books on the history of Texas and the unveiling of statues of historical figures like Ben Milam in San Antonio. The clippings also contain feature articles entitled, "100 years ago today in Texas," from the Dallas Morning News. Social and economic subjects relate to the aviation and agricultural industries in Texas, notable citizens, and the state prison system, among other topics. Additionally, the collection contains articles [ca. 1841-1883] from several British journals and magazine, such as The Penny Magazine and Eliza Cook’s Journal, which discuss travel and social topics in Texas.
