			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>Born in Georgia, Joseph T. Tally (1806-1880) and his wife Margaret H. had at least three children: Margaret, Jeff, and another son. Their sons fought for the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Their daughter Margaret married J. D. Davis and lived in Bastrop, Texas, while Jeff resided in Oklahoma.</p>

			<p>Composed of Photostats of correspondence, the Joseph T. Tally Papers, 1853-1877, chronicle Tally’s familial affairs. Correspondence between Margaret and a friend in Georgia, Avy Villar Glenn, discusses social affairs, while correspondence to Tally and his wife from his sons at Fort Morgan, Alabama; New Orleans, Louisiana; and other locations concerns their service in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.</p>
