Biographical Note

Lawyer, judge, and land surveyor, Cornelius Kincheloe Stribling (1833-1918) was the son of Benjamin Haile Stribling (1794-1852) and Ruth Bradley Greenwood. After studying law with his brother in San Antonio, Texas, Stribling joined the Masonic Order in 1854. Stribling resided in a number of counties in Texas, including Gonzalez, Lavaca, Shackleford, and Throckmorton. During the Civil War, he mustered into Company C of the 8th Texas Cavalry, also known as Terry’s Texas Rangers. Stribling married Callie Augusta Grover in December 1859. After her death a year later, he married Nancy Caroline Stribling, with whom he had ten children. Although he originally worked in Fort Griffin, Texas, as lawyer and land surveyor with several partners, such as George A. Kirkland and Sam Spears, Stribling became district judge of Shackelford County by 1880. He died in Throckmorton County on December 13, 1918, and is interred in Throckmorton cemetery.
