			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>Reverand Walter S. South (1824-1897) was a Methodist clergyman, farmer, and circuit
				rider, born in Kentucky. He moved to Texas in 1847, settling in the town of Bryan in
				Brazos County, Texas in 1863. South’s duties as a circuit rider required him to
				travel throughout Texas in an effort to minister to settlers and organize
				congregations. </p>

			<p>The Walter S. South Diaries, 1860-1890, consist of four transcribed diaries describe
				South’s daily activities of travel, hunting, and religious study. Additionally, the
				diaries discuss funeral services he performed for communities, most often in the
				aftermath of a skirmish with the local Native Americans.</p>
