			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>Born in Austin, Texas, Charles William Ramsdell, Jr. (1909-1973), was the son of Charles William Ramsdell, Sr. (1877-1942), and Susanna Griffith. Like his father, Ramsdell attended the University of Texas at Austin and was an historian. A prolific writer, he authored <emph render="italic">San Antonio, a Historical and Pictorial Guide</emph> (1959), as well as many articles on Texas history. Ramsdell worked at the National Park Service and as a staff writer for the <emph render="italic">San Antonio Express Magazine</emph>. On June 13, 1933, Ramsdell married Josephine Miller Bramlett (1905-1957), with whom he had one son, Charles Michael Ramsdell.</p>

			<head>Scope and Contents</head>
			<p>Comprised of typescripts of correspondence and historical sketches in two volumes, the Charles William Ramsdell, Jr., Papers, [ca. 1938], document Ramsdell’s research on 18th and 19th century Texas history. The first volume, Refugio Mission, 1793-1825, consists of the correspondence of missionaries concerning the <emph render="italic">Refugio Mission</emph>, translated from Spanish to English. The second volume, <emph render="italic">Spanish Goliad</emph>, relates the history of Goliad, Texas, from its founding in 1749 to its partial destruction and rebuilding in 1840. The latter also discusses the Presidio La Bah&#xed;a, and the Texas Revolution as well as James Walker Fannin, Jr., and his role in the Goliad massacre in 1836.</p>
