			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>Frederick <emph render="doublequote">Fred</emph> Nibling, Sr. (d. ca. 1846) received
				a grant for land in Robertson’s colony from the government of Coahuila y Texas in
				1835. During the Texas Revolution, he fought in the Texas Army, after which he
				practiced law in the Republic of Texas. His son, Frederick <emph
					render="doublequote">Fred</emph> Nibling, Jr. (d. 1904), was a farmer, cattle
				raiser, and land dealer in Texas.</p>

			<p>Correspondence, legal documents, account papers, and land surveys in the Fred Nibling
				Papers, 1833-1904, document the careers of Frederick Nibling, Sr., and Frederick
				Nibling, Jr. The collection concerns Nibling, Sr.’s activities in the Texas Army,
				his legal practice in the Republic of Texas, and his relationships with family and
				friends. The papers of Nibling, Jr. chronicle the sale of livestock, trade in real
				estate, crop returns, farming conditions, family news, and friendship with James and
				Mary Graves. Legal documents include Nibling, Sr.’s 1835 Mexican land grant, the
				Nibling family’s deeds for lands in Texas, deeds and other documents relating to the
				James and Mary Graves family, and estate papers for Nibling, Sr., concerning
				individuals in Baltimore, Maryland. Account papers contain an account book for the
				Texas Army, stock book for the purchase and sale of cattle, and account books for
				the sale of land and supplies. The collection also includes land survey maps and
				notes.</p>
