Biographical NoteMusician, music producer, and sound engineer Curtis Kirk (1929-1985) was born in Grand Saline, Texas. The owner of Tyler Publishing Company and Custom Records in Tyler, Texas, Kirk was active from about the 1950s to 1980s, producing a number of songs and albums for local Texas musicians. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsComprised of printed programs, artwork, posters, and photographs, as well as audiocassette tapes and phonodiscs, the Curtis Kirk/Tyler Publishing Company Audio Archives, 1963-1983, document Kirk’s career as the owner, music producer, and sound engineer for Tyler Publishing Company and Custom Records. Audiocassette tapes contain live performances recorded at various bluegrass festivals in Texas and Oklahoma and “sound-alike” recordings, while phonodiscs consist of custom 45 rpm and LP releases of country songs, gospel music, and commercial jingles.
