A Guide to the Combat at Sea Film Collection, 1952, 1992
Historical NoteThe Combat at Sea film series was a group of individual documentaries spanning the history of naval warfare. Some, if not all, were produced by the Texas-based company Brazos Productions. Arts & Entertainment (A&E) Television broadcast the documentaries beginning in 1992. The complete series of Victory at Sea is also included in the collection. Originally aired by NBC between 1952 and 1953, Victory at Sea documented naval warfare during the Second World War. The series received numerous awards, including an Emmy in 1954. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and ContentsThe Combat at Sea Film Collection, 1952, 1992, comprises Betacam and U-matic video cassettes used by Brazos Production for the Combat at Sea film series, produced for Arts and Entertainment Television in 1992. Although most topics range from the Revolutionary War to the early 1990s, an overwhelming majority of the tapes document U.S. naval warfare during the Second World War. Common World War II topics include Admiral Chester Nimitz and Japanese Naval Marshall General Isoroku Yamamota, U.S. foreign policy, the U.S.S. Yorktown, naval aviation, and “Navy News” from 1989-1990. The collection also contains the complete series Victory at Sea, which documents the battles, personalities and technology of naval warfare during World War II.
