Founded in 1953 and headquartered in Austin since 1999, the Texas
Association of Broadcasters (TAB) is a trade association for members of the
state’s radio and television industries. Governed by a board of directors, TAB
lobbies for and state and national legislation to support the interests of its
members, including increasing media access to records and meetings, minimizing
sales tax for the tools of broadcasting, and reducing regulation and inspection
of broadcast stations. The organization also hosts an annual convention and
workshops, provides scholarships to college students, and coordinates public
services like AMBER Alerts and Emergency Warnings. In 1999, TAB established
permanent headquarters in Austin.

(TAB) Records, 1952-2000, document the administration, government, finances,

its support of the Texas radio and television industries. Administrative
records include correspondence, personnel files and general records of TAB.
Meeting minutes, governing documents, and committee files concern the
governance of the association via its board of directors, committees,
presidents, and philanthropic child organizations, such as the Texas
Broadcasters Educational Foundation, while budgets, ledgers and tax materials
detail its finances. Planning files, printed material, applications, and video
and audio recordings chronicle TAB awards, conferences, and annual conventions.
The association’s newsletter, the TAB Bulletin, and other publications
chronicle the organization’s membership and legislative activities. Subject
files on specific stations, educatiors, broadcasters, and legislative issues
illuminate the work of TAB’s members and its political activism.
