After his ordination in 1875, Kinsolving served as rector of St. Mark's Church in Baltimore from 1875 to 1878. While a rector at St. John's Church of Cincinnati (1878-1881), he married Grace Jaggar of New York in 1879. After serving the Church of the Epiphany in Philadelphia from 1881 to 1892, Kinsolving became the assistant bishop of Texas in 1892 and bishop a year later. Kinsolving increased the influence of the Episcopal Church at the University of Texas at Austin by championing the creation of Grace Hall, a religious girls dormitory in 1898, and the All Saints Chapel in 1900. In 1923, he was placed in charge of all American Episcopal churches in Europe.
