			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>Miner Kilbourne Kellogg (1814-1889) was an artist. He traveled around northwestern
				Texas in order to survey, explore, and locate lands for a company of eastern
				American businessmen. Additionally, Kellogg traveled throughout Europe and the
				Middle East. He also wrote and lectured on different fine arts and geographic topics
				in the United States, including the papers <title render="doublequote">Researches
					into the History of a Painting by Raphael Urbino, entitled <emph
						render="singlequote">La bell Jardinière</emph></title> (1860) and <title
					render="doublequote">The Geography of Mount Sinai</title> (1871).</p>

			<head>Scope and Contents</head>
			<p>Composed of diaries, reminiscences and notes, writings, and photographs, the Miner
				Kilbourne Kellogg Papers, 1825-1887, document Kellogg’s career as an artist and
				world traveler. Kellogg’s handwritten diaries, May-September 1872, describe his
				survey expedition to northwestern Texas for a company of eastern American
				businessmen. In photocopies of Kellogg’s reminiscences and notes, he narrates his
				life for an autobiography. He discusses his travels throughout Europe and the Middle
				East, among other topics. Additionally, the
				collection includes photographs depicting portraits by Kellogg of his family.</p>
