The husband of Nancy A. Hart and brother of Martha E. Gray, Joseph Benjamin Hart of
Harper County, Mississippi, fought for the Confederate Army in Company F of the 12th
Mississippi Cavalry during the Civil War.
Scope and Contents
The Joseph B. Hart Letters, 1861-1865, consist of missives from Hart to his wife
Nancy, describing his experiences during the Civil War, primarily in Mississippi.
The collection also contains a letter to Hart from Nancy and his sister Martha E.
Gray and a blank legal form for use of adjoining
farms.
