			<p>Edward Harden (1784-1849) from Athens, Georgia, was a farmer, lawyer, soldier, and
				Senator for the state of Georgia. George W. West (1808-1879) was a farmer and
				businessman from Cedartown, Polk County, Georgia.</p>

			<p>Transcripts of various correspondences comprise the Edward Harden Letters, 1836-1855.
				In an 1836 letter from Thomas J. Rusk of Nachogdoches, Texas, Rusk urgently asks
				Harden for military assistance for the Texian Army and to spread support for the
				Texas Revolution. The other letters in this collection have no apparent connection
				with Edward Harden. These include letters to George W. West of Cedartown, Polk
				County, Georgia, from friends Ausborn Harris and L.A. Prior and his son Francis J.
				West in Rusk County, Texas. The letters concern the management of George’s farm in
				Rusk County, including the conditions of the county and the type of people living
				there.</p>
