			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>Born in J&#xf6;nk&#xf6;ping, Sweden, Carl Gustaf Holmstrom (1869-1949) emigrated to Decker, Texas in 1888. A farmer and miller by profession, Holmstrom spent two years in Austin working as a farm laborer before moving to Williamson County, where he worked as a tenant farmer for twelve years. In 1905, he bought a farm in Jonah on the San Gabriel River. Holmstrom and his wife, Anna Sofia Fr&#xf6;jd (1872-1940), whom he married in 1894, had six children born in Texas.</p>

			<head>Scope and Contents</head>
			<p>Consisting of correspondence, financial records, printed materials, and photographs, the Carl Gustaf Holmstrom Family Papers, 1882-1918, document the experiences of Swedish immigrants Carl Gustaf Holmstrom, his wife Anna Fr&#xf6;jd, his daughter Frances Holmstrom Brown, and his son-in-law Forrest F. Brown in Williamson and Travis counties, Texas. The majority of the papers are in Swedish, including correspondence and financial documents. Correspondence is between family and friends in Texas and Sweden, while receipts and money orders comprise the financial papers. Printed materials consist of a songbook and poem in English, postcards, and a biblical treatise in Swedish.</p>
