			<head>Scope and Contents</head>
			<p>The Gus Hanewald Diary, 1930, documents Hanewald’s trip to Germany from May 22 through September 23, 1930. Entitled <emph render="italic">Eine Reise nach Deutschland</emph>, the diary describes traveling with a friend by train on the Southern Pacific Railroad from San Antonio to Houston and eventually to Galveston, where he embarked on the ship <emph render="italic">Rio Panuco</emph> bound for Germany. Additionally, Hanewald discusses his fellow passengers, social affairs, and his travels through Germany.</p>
