Born in Tennessee, Lewis Vance Greer (b. ca. 1806-1887) was the brother of John Alexander Greer (1802-1855), lieutenant governor of Texas from 1847 to 1851 and congressman representing San Augustine County from 1837 to 1845. A farmer by profession, Lewis V. Greer had at least four children, whom he raised in San Augustine County.
