			<head>Biographical Note</head>
			<p>Born in Tennessee, Lewis Vance Greer (b. ca. 1806-1887) was the brother of John Alexander Greer (1802-1855), lieutenant governor of Texas from 1847 to 1851 and congressman representing San Augustine County from 1837 to 1845. A farmer by profession, Lewis V. Greer had at least four children, whom he raised in San Augustine County.</p>

Greer Papers, 1837-1882, document Lewis Vance Greer’s financial and legal affairs and his relationship with his brother, John Alexander Greer. Correspondence concerns John’s political career as a Senator, including petitions from residents in San Augustine County. Lewis’s legal documents pertain to granting power of attorney to his son, F.H. Greer. Additionally, his financial papers include receipts for purchases.</p>
