Biographical SketchBorn in Tennessee around 1811, plantation owner William Garrett moved to the Ayish Bayou District of Texas and settled in San Augustine in the late 1820s or early 1830s. Garrett owned over a thousand acres of land and 132 slaves. His plantation produced corn, cotton, wheat and barley. Garrett may have been married twice and had at least five children.
