			<p>James Allen and Charity E. (Rice) Eidson lived in Hamilton, Texas, where James worked
				as a lawyer. The couple had eight children, including Arthur Richelieu Eidson, who
				served as Hamilton County Attorney and District Attorney.</p>

			<p>Land grants, deeds, notes, receipts, survey maps, and other legal documents comprise
				the James A. Eidson Papers, 1850-1900, documenting the law practice of Eidson. The
				collection primarily relates to the transfer of land in Texas and Tennessee for
				Eidson and others, such as the Bailey family, Samuel A. Maverick’s heirs, and the
				Rice family. It also consists of Eidson and his wife Charity’s notes with financial
				institutions, such as the Texas Loan Agency, Hamilton National Bank, and Equitable
				Securities Company.</p>
