Biographical Note

The son of Methodist preacher John Droddy (b. 1790) and Sarah Hays (b. 1772), William A. Droddy was born in Missouri on May 16, 1823. By 1838, his parents had moved to Texas, where his father received a headright grant for land in Newton County. Droddy married Dicey Watson (1826-1886) on July 12, 1849, and the couple bore ten children. A farmer by profession, Droddy also fought in the Mexican War and was a corporal in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He died on May 7, 1891, and is buried in Dickerson Cemetery in Newton County.
