A Guide to the UT Police Department Records, 2010
Biographical NoteThe University of Texas Police Department (UTPD) was founded in 1968 and currently employs more than 130 individuals. Accredited through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, the mission of the UTPD is to serve and protect the University of Texas community and has the same responsibilities as most municipal police organizations. On the morning of September 28, 2010, Colton Tooley, a UT sophomore, fired several shots on the University of Texas at Austin campus before committing suicide in the university library.
