Bryan’s Mill, Texas, native and geologist Frank Bryan (1890-1960) graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1911, after playing as all-conference lineman on the 1910 undefeated University of Arkansas football team. Earning the rank of Army first lieutenant in World War II, Bryan went on to serve as President of the 90th Division Veterans of American. After the war, Bryan conducted research on oil resources and geological history across Texas for several decades. He was a founding member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and spoke to oil- and geology-related groups throughout the U.S. In 1940, Bryan became president of the Groesbeck Abstract Company, a post he held until his death.

The Frank Bryan Papers, undated, consists of a transcript of “Texas One Thousand Years Before Christ,” a speech Bryan gave to an archeological society. The speech concerns Bryan’s research about the geology, life, and climate of prehistoric Texas, specifically the Caddo Lake area.
