A Guide to the Don Jewell Papers, 1961-1998
Don Jewell (1921-) worked as a convention center manager and facilities management consultant for Facility Consultants, Inc. From 1965 to 1966, he served as the president of the International Association of Auditorium Managers, now the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM). Three years later, Jewell became one of the first facilities managers to become a Certified Facilities Executive through an IAVM certification program he helped organize. In 1997, the Convention Industry Council inducted Jewell into the Hall of Leaders. He was the second convention center manager to earn the recognition. He conceived the idea of the IAVM’s International Convention Center Conference (ICCC), and at the 25th conference in 2006, Jewell was honored for his contributions to the ICCC. Jewell also wrote Public Assembly Facilities: Planning and Management (1978), Privatization of Public Assembly Facilities Management (1998), and other publications.
