			<head>Biographical Note</head>
<p>Don Jewell (1921-) worked as a convention center manager and facilities management
consultant for Facility Consultants, Inc. From 1965 to 1966, he served as the
president of the International Association of Auditorium Managers, now the
International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM). In 1973, Jewell received the
Charles A. McElravy Award, which the IAVM created to honor pioneers in the
profession of venue management. Three years later, Jewell became one of the first
facilities managers to become a Certified Facilities Executive through an IAVM
certification program he helped organize. In 1997, the Convention Industry Council
inducted Jewell into the Hall of Leaders. He was the second convention center
manager to earn the recognition. He conceived the idea of the IAVM’s International
Convention Center Conference (ICCC), and at the 25th conference in 2006, Jewell was
honored for his contributions to the ICCC. Jewell also wrote <title render="italic"

			<head>Scope and Contents</head>
<p>The Don Jewell Papers, 1961-1998, document Jewell’s career as a facilities management
consultant as well as member and president of the International Association of
Assembly Management (IAAM). The papers consist of facilities consultant project
files and bound consulting reports, manuscripts, reference materials, International
Convention Center Conference (ICCC) records, publications, and other materials. The
facilities consulting project files and bound reports, 1966-1995, contain studies,
reviews, and recommendations for convention centers and other public and multiuse
buildings in the United States and around the world, including the Atlantic City
(N.J.) Convention Center, the San Antonio (Texas) Convention Center &#x0026; Arena,
the China World Trade Center in Beijing, several venues in Spokane, Washington, and
Jakarta Convention Centre in Indonesia, among others. The original manuscripts and
				reference material, 1978-1998, concern Jewell’s <title render="italic">Public
					Assembly Facilities</title>, <title render="italic">Privatization of Public
Assembly Facilities Management</title>, and other publications, copies of which
are included. The ICCC records, 1983-1994, contain board meeting minutes and
programs for the conferences. Furthermore, the collection includes an initial
proposal for the establishment of Certified Facilities Executive qualifications and
a 1997 salute to Jewell from the Convention Liaison Council Hall of Leaders.</p>
