Abstract: Helen Day Butler, daughter of Dr. Samuel Lovick and Lucy Lorine Lee Butler of Bullard, Texas, was born on September 20, 1882. In 1905 she married William Henry Whitley (1880-1924), son of Sharp R. and Prudence Graham Whitley of Jacksonville, Texas. The records relate to the history and genealogy of the Butler family and the Whitley family.

Biographical Sketch

Helen Day Butler, daughter of Dr. Samuel Lovick and Lucy Lorine Lee Butler of Bullard, Texas, was born on September 20, 1882. In 1905 she married William Henry Whitley (1880-1924), son of Sharp R. and Prudence Graham Whitley of Jacksonville, Texas. The couple lived in Dallas and Waxahachie and had three children, Gladys, Helen, and William Lovick, who died as an infant. William Henry Whitley, a newspaper publisher with United Publishing Co., died in 1924 in Waxahachie.

Scope and Contents

The William Henry and Helen Butler Papers, 1901-1946, include letters, notebooks, genealogical materials, legal papers, account books, photographs, albums, membership cards, school report cards, diplomas, maps, newspaper clippings, books, pamphlets, almanacs, and catalogs. The records relate to the history and genealogy of the Butler family and the Whitley family, and contain newspaper clippings concerning World War II. Additionally, the account books, legal papers, clippings, and pamphlets pertain to the United Publishing Company.
