A Guide to the Ed R. Thompson Diary, 1848, 1871, 1895-1898
Ed R. Thompson (b. 1853) worked as the ranch foreman for the T. D. Wood Ranch in Victoria County, Texas. The ranch belonged to cattleman, banker, and Victoria alderman Tobias D. Wood (1851-1916), who owned 20,000 acres of land by 1892.
The Ed R. Thompson Diary, 1848, 1871, 1895-1898, concerns the T. D. Wood Ranch in Victoria County, Texas. Diary entries (1895-1896) include descriptions of hog hunting, buying and selling cattle and other animals, cattle drives, and working with T.D. "Mr. Tobe" Wood. Additionally, the diary contains a list of employees and relatives on the ranch (1898), cashbook entries (1895-1898), and legal documents in Spanish and English (1848, 1871).
