A Guide to the C. F. Goodridge Papers, 1904-1929
Biographical SketchC. F. Goodridge served as the representative for the Four Railroad Brotherhoods, which, along with the State Federation of Labor, organized the Joint Legislative Board in 1903. He sat on the board for the sessions of the 30th through the 37th Legislatures (1907-1921), and was the chairman of the Texas Nonpartisan Political Conference, which convened in Dallas, April 25, 1922. Representing the Order of Railway Conductors, Goodridge attended the Joint Farm-Labor Legislative Conference, a part of the 38th Texas Legislature, 1923. Sources: Texas Bureau of Labor Statistics. Goodridge Papers, 1904-1929, include correspondence, literary productions, imprints, legal papers, and a photograph pertaining to legislative problems of railway unions in Texas. The papers also relate to the Democratic National Platform, 1928, and to the control of railroads during World War I. Furthermore, the materials document the controversy surrounding Governor James Ferguson and his opinions about certain faculty members at the University of Texas, 1917, as well as the unionization of Texas.
