A Guide to the Chenoweth and Clark Records, 1860-1895
Historical NoteChenoweth and Clark was a Bonham, Texas, law partnership comprised of James Q. Chenoweth and James Benjamin Clark that focused mainly on the purchase and sale of land. The partnership operated for approximately ten years, ca. 1875-ca. 1885. Chenoweth (1841-1909) served as district judge (1875), two terms in the Texas legislature, as auditor of the United States treasury (1885), Fannin county judge (1892), and superintendent of the Confederate Home for Men (later the Texas Confederate Home) in Austin (1903-1909). Clark (1831–1908) served as a member of the board of regents at the University of Texas (1883-1885) and as proctor and custodian general of the university (1885-1908).
